About this Project
This project entailed a revamp of actor Kyle MacLachlan’s official site to make it more user-friendly, social and engaging. The previous site was an ineffective hybrid between a personal website and a fan site, offering both exclusive and aggregate content. It was managed using an unwieldy custom-built CMS and had no search functionality or social integration. The failure to marry content and platforms translated to a fragmented digital presence that was inefficient and difficult to maintain. Because it was developed in Flash, the website’s technical design also made it a poor contender in the current digital landscape.
In addition to the visual design, I was responsible for planning the information architecture, user flows and content strategy, working with a WordPress developer to plan the back-end build out to support an enhanced experience. I recommended moving to WordPress on account of its SEO friendliness and extensibility, and adding a blog and social widgets so Kyle could engage directly with his fans and repurpose archival content through thematic blog and social posts. The new site structure and design also allowed for a richer, more impactful way to view photos and videos.
